As artists, designers and illustrators, we constanstly need to seach for inspiration from the past. And there are some artists born a century ago producted distinct artworks in their period, so memorable and innovative that their influrence are still found in nowadays art and design and still considered flesh.
1) EGON SCHIELE

Egon Schiele (1890 - 1918)
Nationality: Austiran
Movement: Expressionism
Field: Painting

Sitzender weiblicher Akt, self portrait, self portrait, Girls, Mädchen
Schiele’s work is built on drawing, rather than painting, often using very thin washes of color in only parts of an artwork. Painters should look at his work to see how much can be conveyed with little detail, for instance how just painting a face and a hand can still give a sense of the body between them.

2) MAX ERNST

Max Ernst (1891 - 1976)
Nationality: German
Movement: Surrealism
Field: Painting, Sculture, Poetry

The Fireside Angel, The Temptation of St. Anthony, The Elephant Celebes, Ubu Imperator, The Virgin Spanking the Christ Child before Three Witnesses
Max was one of the leading advocates of irrationality in art, and an originator of the Automatism movement of Surrealism. His youthful interests were psychiatry and philosophy, but he abandoned his studies at the University of Bonn for painting. After his return to France in 1949, his work became less experimental: he spent much time perfecting his modeling technique in traditional sculptural materials.

Norman was extremely realistic. His real success came in his ability to put everyday life, real slices, into his pictures. Some of them bring a tear to viewer’s eye just thinking about them. His Four Freedoms and the Grandmother and grandson praying in the diner.

Although Miró is most closely associated with this movement, it was not a classification he used to describe his work. Additionally, his style progressed quickly beyond Surrealism during the 1920’s, and became ever more abstract with the passing decades. He is best known for his prolific output of paintings (some 2,000, in all), many of which contain playful, colorful organic shapes.

Often called the “Father of Abstract Art”, Kandinsky trained as a lawyer in his native Russia, but discovered his true calling was in art. Thx! Updated
Who’s work is that at the very top?
That was almost insulting to think that we’re “missing” or going to “forget” these artists! Miro!? Ernst!? Kandinsky!? Are you serious or do designers and illustrators just don’t care about art history? No, on retrospect it was insulting. I can’t wait to see who you put in the next top 5. DeChirco, Dali, Cezzane?
Amayernican, you are truly a troll. The only insulting thing here is you, and you’re amazing propensity to misinterpret.
The Artist at the very top is Kristin Baker.
Thx Brownies,
I found the artworks in Saatchi website, and I very like it. I am also looking for the artist and you get give me a hand. Thx

A reasonable selection of some outstanding 19th century artists, except I do not understand the reference to “artists you’re going to miss today.” Whether you like them or not, they are not likely to be missed in any compilation.
RE Peter: Thx for your comment. The “miss” here mean think about them, as I like those artist so much and think that they hv hugh influence of today art and design..
I liked how you showed today’s works that drew inspiration from past artists. Very interesting!
